This New England Victorian-era island is just a 12-mile, one-hour ferry ride off the Rhode Island-Connecticut coast. Enjoy lighthouses and Victorian architecture, boutique-type shopping, great seafood and gourmet cuisine, bicycling, hiking, horseback riding, deep-sea fishing, sailing, and nature walks. Resort amenities include full kitchens in every unit, outdoor barbecue grills, heated indoor pool (April to November), outdoor tennis courts, pool table, and complimentary movie library. A car is recommended. Restaurants and activities are limited from November to May. The resort does not have elevators, and many units require climbing stairs. Beautiful beaches, great fishing, and sailing can be enjoyed on this island, just a 12-mile ferry ride off the Rhode Island coast. Block Island features 17 miles of pristine beaches, protected by lighthouses and spectacular bluffs, and surrounded by rolling roads and winding paths. Many of the beaches encompassing the island are isolated and nearly untouched providing breathtaking views and utmost tranquility.Block Island has been called the "Bermuda of the North," so it is only fitting that most visitors choose bicycles or mopeds as their primary form of island transportation. Many beach-goers find it easy to walk straight to the beach from the ferry landing, or rent a bike or moped to explore the beach further out.
